Influence outside the room
Bri Williams
There’s a misnomer about face-to-face influence.
We think it happens during the interaction.
But so much of it takes place outside the room.
- Day and time of the interaction
- Where you’re meeting
- What you’re wearing
- Materials you produce
- Who’s around
- How the interaction came to be
By the time you’re sitting across from someone, a tone has usually been set.
That’s good news – because it means influence isn’t only something you perform in the moment.
It’s something you can design for.
So stop thinking of the meeting as your chance to influence.
Start thinking about how you influence your influence.
