Yelling into the void
Bri Williams
Ever felt like you’re putting in effort, but it’s disappearing into nothing?
That's what ineffective influence feels like.
Rules.
Reminders.
Meetings about meetings.
Endless emails.
Effort goes in…and behaviour doesn’t change.
It’s like yelling into the void.
And the problem isn’t that people don’t care.
It’s that most influence strategies aren’t designed for how people actually behave.
People skim.
They default to the easiest option.
They respond to what’s immediate – not what you think is important.
So when we rely on motivation, awareness, or compliance, our effort has no impact.
If you want better results – and sooner – stop pouring effort into the void.
Start designing for real behaviour.
Reduce friction.
Change defaults.
Shape the path of least resistance.
Because influence isn’t about saying things louder or more often.
It’s about making the right behaviour the easy one.
