Bruce the butcher
Bri Williams
Bruce, the local butcher, prided himself on how well he kept his shop. The display was always enticing, and the shop neat as a pin.
Surprising, then, that he put up with a typo in the front window's signage.
It read "For the freshest and best local produse around."
"Why don't you fix that mistake, Bruce?", the locals asked.
"What, and give away the reason dozens of people come into the shop every week to tell me about it?!"
The most surprising thing about human behaviour is that we keep getting surprised! My work in behavioural science has taught me time and again that there are patterns in how we behave, and knowing them can make us more effective.
That doesn't mean that everything is obvious, of course, which is why today Iβm sharing two of the most counter intuitive examples of behavioural influence with my Just Do This members.
Theyβll be learning:
-
Why itβs not enough to make things easy. Sometimes making things difficult for your customer can be a good thing; and
-
Why making mistakes can be good for your business, as Bruce the butcher proved.
The easiest way to get access to this content, plus over 80 more, is to be a Just Do This member. I promise, it's only difficult when it should be :)

P.P.S. The story of Bruce was based on one I heard as a child and have used for illustrative purposes, along with an AI generated image.
