Crusty toothpaste
Bri Williams
Do you hate that bit of toothpaste that clags around the lid, making it difficult to close and spreading paste in places you donโt want it?
Just like socks disappearing in the wash, toothpaste lumps seem an inevitability.
Easy to fix, though. We just need to wipe the lid clean.
But we donโt, do we? We roll the dice and live life on the edge. โIโll get it next timeโ, we think.
This is short-term bias at play, our tendency to want good stuff now and leave the bad stuff till later.
We tolerate it in ourselves, but for some reason expect customers and colleagues to always do the right thing, right now.
The truth is that everyone will instinctively push unpleasantness into the future until the accumulated pain finally forces action.
The opportunity we therefore have is to:
-
Make it easier to do the right thing now, or
-
Make future pain feel more immediate and easily avoidable.
