Jerry Seinfeld joked that looking down, the only sensible conclusion aliens could come to is that dogs are in charge.
Why else would humans follow them around cleaning up their poo?
At the risk of picking apart a joke, I love this because it helps us see leadership in two ways.
- The first: leadership as being the dog, expecting others to do the demeaning work.
- The second: leadership as being the person who sorts things out.
Picking up the metaphorical poo isnโt serving the dog. Itโs serving the greater good.
Itโs not a big deal if you do it. Itโs a big deal if you donโt.
So yes, Jerry. Let the aliens think the dogs are in charge. Great leaders are too busy picking up the poo to care.
