Should do
Bri Williams
You know what you should do.
So why haven’t you?
It’s usually not a lack of knowledge that stops us from acting.
Though we might pretend it is.
It’s more often one of three things.
1. Effort
You don’t have the energy or interest to bother.
The key is to make the first action so small it almost seems pointless. It’s not. It gets you going.
-
Confusion
While you know what you should do, you’re not clear on what the best way to start is.
Do something physical, even if your task isn’t. Clean your desk. Pick up a pen. Sit in a different chair. Movement will help you get unstuck.
-
Fear
You’re worried about it going wrong. Or you’re worried about it going right.
Usually the advice is to lower the stakes. That can help.
Or, do the opposite. Note down your worst case scenario.
This does three things: shows you it's unlikely, prepares you emotionally if it happens, lets you plan mitigations.

P.P.S. Shhh...this is only for introverts
